Queen Street Trip

Last week the Year 2 syndicate visited Queen street to hunt for signs and symbols. The street was filled with different signs and symbols which give people information, direction or warnings. We learnt that signs can be very useful and is used to communicate important messages in a quick way. These are some of the signs we found on our trip.

Can you spot what messages the signs are communicating?

  1. I saw a sign that said SALE. This means that you can buy something from that shop for a really good price.

  8. What a fun day we all had in Queen Street, but I was tired as well on the way home, like Tegan and Ruby! I liked the Made in New Zealand sign best. And my group from Room 22 found a very interesting symbol in the old part of the Britomart station on the floor, made from mosiacs round the edge were the initials G R. I got in touch with the Britomart people who said the building was built around 1912 and the G R is the cipher of King George V who reigned after Queen Victoria and as this was the old General Post Office, this symbol must have been to honour him. What a lot of history there is everywhere, if you just look! See if you can find the GR next time you go to Britomart!
